A new research shows women shop for sexy clothes when they are ovulating.

In the mood for something sexy? You just might be ovulating. What’s the

correlation between the two? According the results of a new research conducted

by The University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management, women at peak

fertility unconsciously choose sexier clothes than they do at other times of the

month. The researchers also noted that in most cases, women tend to buy sexy

clothing during ovulation in an attempt to look good to rival a potential love

interest.

Dr Amrita Rao, consultant gynecologist at Manipal hospital, explains the reason

behind this, “Women tend to feel a rise in libido when they are ovulating and that

makes them feel sexier and charged up.”

You sexy thing
Ramona Gill, 26-years-old, talks about her shopping urges and says, “My one

shopping indulgence is sexy lingerie and nightgowns. While many don’t

understand why a single woman would love lingerie so much, I always feel that it’s

nice to feel sexy, even if it is just for you. I pick up new stuff every month and

usually, it is before I begin my cycle. I always thought that was because I was

subconsciously trying to make myself feel better before PMS set in, but now that

the survey is out, it does make sense. Even though I don’t know when exactly I

ovulate, I at least have a scientific backing to validate my sexy shopping spree at

that time of the month now.”

In mood for some love
Explaining the process of ovulation Dr Amrita says, “During ovulation, the egg is

released out of the ovary and enters the fallopian tube, waiting to be fertilised.

This usually happens mid cycle, approximately 14 days before your expected

period.” A woman is most fertile during ovulation. The offshoot of this is mental

changes such as increased libido, which is why sexy clothes are preferred at this

period. Mental changes aside, your body preps you up for your most fertile period

physically too. “Women will experience a more watery discharge during ovulation

and this is nothing to get worried about. This is nature’s way of preparing your

body and facilitating easy movement of sperm,” says Dr Amrita.

All part of nature
Some women might feel slight bloating before ovulation, but there’s nothing to

worry about, says Dr Amrita. It’s only after ovulation that cramps and weight gain

sets in thanks to the progesterone effect. “Bloating, weight gain and food cravings

set in after ovulation, but they don’t last for more than half a day. If absolutely

necessary, take an evening primrose oil tablet to alleviate the symptoms, but try

and let it take its course without tablets,” says the doctor.

She also advices women that mental and physical changes that women go

through during and after ovulation shouldn’t be looked at negatively. “Sometimes,

women look at their increase in libido and watery discharge as unnatural and a

disease. One must realise that this is perfectly natural and is how nature intended

it to be. All these changes are part of your bio rhythm and shouldn’t be looked at

as anything unnatural,” says Dr Amrita. So the next time you are in the mood to

shop for something sexy, blame it on the hormones and shop away. This is one

shopping spree your husband/partner might not mind either.
