What is astrological compatibility? Is it truly necessary for efficient teamwork in any type of relationship?

A properly done horoscope is compartmented into different fields. These fields will correspond to the different planets and elements and have something to do with the different aspects of the personality.

For example, in a partnership (such as relationship, business, project), the most important field is communication. The planet that corresponds to your ability to communicate and the quality of your communications is Mercury. This is the planet that will show not only the way you talk, but also the way you think.

Then we add to Mercury the aspect of the elements, there are four: Water, Fire, Earth and Air. The goal is to determine if the partner is in a compatible element for your Mercury. If you were to hear two people who were correcting each other because of misunderstandings in what each other said or heard, you can assume that their elements are not compatible. Perhaps one person had their Mercury in Taurus, which is an earth element and the other had their Mercury in a fire element, such as Leo - this would lead to misunderstandings due to the incompatibility of these two elements.

You can also take a look at a married couple or two people in a relationship that are living together. The Moon governs the emotional aspects of people as well as living quarters. Thus to be able to live with another person in the same household you will need to have compatible Moons. If your partner had a Moon in a Water element and yours was in a Fire element, you would not be able to live together under the same roof in harmony for an extended period of time. In this situation Water feels like Fire will make it boil and conversely Fire feels like Water will extinguish it. You can see how these two elements would always be at odds in a living situation.

In a living situation, a Fire element is compatible to Air, here Fire feels like Air fans it and gives it more life. A Water element would need for compatibility an Earth element because Earth will shape and channel Water.

It is also important to know the compatibility of a two people's Venus - which shows how one will relate to others as well as aesthetics and art, and Mars which shows the physical constitution as well as the physical ability to assert oneself. If Mars is incompatible, the two people will argue. The Sun will tell you about the personality and temperament. Keep in mind, however, there are other balances that can be attained. If two moons are not in harmony, it may be balanced by the harmony the moon has with other planets in the other person's chart.


It is interesting to see the important role that the astrological signs and elements have played in the various cultures and religions over the centuries. According to the Vedic system, it was the role of the parents to determine the horoscopes of the two who were to be married. If the astrological calculations of the boy and girl were compatible in all aspects, the match was called yo?aka and the marriage would take place.

In the Hindu society, as early as fifty years ago, this system was still in practice. Conditions of finance, or beauty, or physical attraction, or love were not the guiding light. The guiding light was their astrological compatibility.
